'Top four hopes up in smoke' - Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Coutinho injury v Watford

By Amir Mir

Philippe Coutinho suffered an injury during Liverpool’s 1-0 over Watford on Monday evening at Vicarage Road – and fans on Twitter are hoping the injury isn’t too serious.

The 24-year-old came off early in the first-half when he clashed with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa when trying to flick the ball over the defender.

Coutinho was replaced by Adam Lallana, who was returning from his own injury lay-off as fans pointed that out on social media.

The Anfield faithful were hoping that the injury sustained by Coutinho is only a dead leg as he appeared to wrap his right leg with ice and take pain killers when sitting on the bench.

One supporter stated that he is worried by Coutinho’s injury as the fans will be hoping he can be fit for his side’s remaining fixtures.

Added to that, another fan stated that the Reds’ top four hopes have now gone up in smoke referring to Sadio Mane’s season-ending injury.

During the match, Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up all three points thanks to Emre Can’s incredible overhead kick in the first-half.

The win maintains Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places at the end of the campaign.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Over the course of the season, Coutinho has played 33 games in all competitions for his side, scoring eleven goals and supplying eight assists.

In the Premier League, the Brazillian has played 28 matches, scoring on ten occasions and providing six assists.
