Toti Gomes reacts to Jamie Vardy’s message after Wolves transfer news

Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of a number of clubs linked with a move for Jamie Vardy this summer.

Vardy announced his departure from Leicester City in April after 13 seasons at the King Power Stadium, and this came four days after the Foxes’ immediate relegation back to the Championship was confirmed.

Leicester’s Premier League title and FA Cup-winning number nine scored in his final home game exactly 13 years after his arrival, and Vardy entered the free agent market after his contract ended on 30 June.

The 38-year-old is yet to find a new club but has been linked with a number across the UK, and Football Insider revealed on 7 July that Rangers have stepped up efforts to sign Vardy as their new frontman.

Jamie Vardy shares training video after Leicester City exit

Vardy’s exit from Leicester has seen him linked with a move to another Championship club in the form of the ever ambitious Wrexham, but the veteran striker has also attracted plenty of Premier League interest.

Football Insider revealed back in May that Wolves were leading the chasing pack of clubs in the hunt to sign Vardy this summer, with Vitor Pereira keen to strengthen up front after Matheus Cunha’s departure.

Wolves would be a more straight-forward move than a potential MLS switch for Vardy given its proximity to Leicester, and the former England attacker is keeping fit in the off-season ahead of his next move.

Vardy posted a video on his Instagram story (15 July) as he underwent several shooting drills at the Apex Football Performance centre, and Wolves defender Toti Gomes was one of several players to leave a like.

Wolves could pull off huge Jamie Vardy coup

Football Insider Verdict

Although Vardy’s next club won’t expect him to be their attacking talisman to the extent that a cash-strapped Leicester were forced to last season, his instincts up front will undoubtedly benefit any side.

Wolves have already lost both Cunha and Rayan At-Nouri this summer in a huge blow to their attacking output, and Vardy chipping in to add to his 145 Premier League goals would help relieve the pressure.

Man United have even emerged as possible candidates to sign Vardy after their own attacking woes last term, but Wolves will hope to re-ignite their own pursuit of the 38-year-old in a bid to keep his top-flight career alive.

It would be a huge coup.
