Tottenham secure title in White Hart Lane showdown

By Danny Wright

Tottenham Ladies have won the FA Women’s Premier League South title.

Spurs beat West Ham 4-0 at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night with goals from Josie Green, Wendy Martin and Nikita Whinnett.

The official Spurs Ladies confirmed the title-winning news on their official Twitter page.

Green scored a 25-yard stunner in the 22nd minute before Martin doubled the lead 11 minutes after the break.

Martin then turned provider in the 70th minute when she fed through Whinnett. Bianca Baptiste then rounded off the win, and the title, in style with six minutes to go.

Manager Karen Hills and her squad are currently unbeaten in the FAWPL this season and have only dropped points in one of their 17 matches.

Three points against the West Ham ladies gave them an unassailable 10 point lead at the top of the table.

Captain Jenna Schillaci and her teammates will be able to get her hands on the trophy with three games to spare.

It is the first time the Spurs Ladies have won the competition after a successful double-winning campaign last year which saw them picked up the Ryman’s Women’s Cup and FA Women’s Premier League Cup.
