Fabio Paratici spearheads Tottenham bid to sign ‘next Harry Kane’ – sources

Tottenham are laying the groundwork to sign a marquee number nine this summer who can lead the line in the manner of departed legend Harry Kane, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs recognise that the Bayern Munich superstar is virtually irreplaceable but want a forward with presence who can dovetail with Heung-min Son, James Maddison and company.

It is believed Tottenham are laying the groundwork to land a new forward in this year’s summer window.

Former Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici will spearhead the club’s pursuit using his network of contacts and expertise of the transfer market.

The Italian is continuing to assist Tottenham on a consultancy basis, despite the arrivals at the club of Scott Munn as chief football officer and technical director Johan Lange, and, crucially, is trusted by chairman Daniel Levy.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Tottenham are keen to find the ‘next Kane’, with the ability to play with his back to goal as well be potent in and around the box.

Spurs have coped well this season following Kane’s departure with Son and Richarlison mainly used in the central striker position.

Son has scored 13 goals from 24 appearances, while Richarlison has chipped in with 11 strikes and three assists and was in outstanding form before suffering a knee injury.

Timo Werner was drafted in on loan from RB Leipzig in January and scored his first goal for the club last weekend.

Tottenham work on signing Harry Kane replacement

Ivan Toney, who has recently returned to action with Brentford after a ban for gambling rule breaches, is expected to be available for transfer later this year with his contract up in 2025.

Football Insider revealed last year (7 November) that Tottenham have a long-term interest in Toney that dates back some time but they will not get involved in an auction if his asking price rockets beyond £80million, as it is expected to do.

It is believed Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal will also be in the hunt for the 27-year-old at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
