Kieran Maguire: Tottenham and Nike may have private deal with global superstar as images emerge
Tottenham may have a private promotional deal in place with Nike and tennis superstar Emma Raducanu.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs and Nike’s attempts to “broaden their purchase base.”
The Londoners first partnered with Nike in 2017 and signed a remarkable 15-season extension to the kit deal the following year.
Their commercial income has skyrocketed in that time, from £73million in 2016-17 to £136m in 2020-21.
Raducanu, who became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam in 44 years when she triumphed at the US Open last year, is also signed to Nike.
And the 19-year-old was pictured wearing a Spurs home shirt in an open practice session in Stuttgart on Monday (18 April), as relayed by The Mirror.
Maguire suggests that there may have been a commercial angle to her appearance in Nike-branded Tottenham gear.
“It makes good commercial sense for all parties,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“We’ve seen Nike use their other roster of famous sportspeople and musicians for things like this.
“Their aim is to broaden the potential purchase base away from football fans into the athleisure wear industry.
“Emma Raducanu ticks all these boxes, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what has gone on here.”

Spurs, who fell to a late defeat against Brighton last Saturday (16 April), are currently are 4th in the Premier League.
Antonio Conte’s side are next in action against Brentford tomorrow (23 April).
