Thierno Barry ready to embrace Everton challenge

Barry shared his first message with supporters on Instagram following confirmation of his move to Everton, writing: “Hi everyone, I am here now and very happy to join Everton, very exciting to play on the new stadium and I hope to see you soon.”

Plenty of players liked the message including Tottenham’s Mathys Tel, PSG’s Bradley Barcola and new teammate Iliman Ndiaye.

The 22-year-old forward scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 38 appearances last season, playing a key role as Villarreal secured a fifth-place finish in La Liga and qualification for the Champions League.

Although Barry had a £34.5 million release clause in his contract, the club successfully negotiated a reduced fee to land the French striker. He is expected to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left Everton following the expiration of his contract.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has already hailed the signing of Barry as a vital part of the club’s new era. The forward also becomes the first senior player to join the squad without having featured at Goodison Park, signalling a fresh chapter as the team prepares to move into the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton see John McGinn approach rejected amid midfield search

John McGinn has seen interest from Everton.

Everton are wasting no time in strengthening their squad, with reinforcements expected across multiple positions under Moyes.

Football Insider revealed Aston Villa have turned down an enquiry for John McGinn from Everton regarding the availability of their captain.

The Toffees were prepared to offer up to £30 million for the Scotland international, but Villa are unwilling to part ways with one of their key players.

Despite the setback, Everton remain in the market for a new midfielder as they continue their summer rebuild, but time will tell if they approach Villa with a formal bid.
