Tottenham are ‘doing bits behind the scenes’ after Morata update from Spain – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham are working hard behind the scenes to get the “right players” for Antonio Conte.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Daniel Levy will not “pay over the odds” in the final days of the transfer window.

According to Spanish outlet COPE (27 January), Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has an offer from Tottenham – as well as Barcelona and Newcastle.

Tottenham, Daniel Levy

The publication claims Atleti are willing to accept a loan proposal from an English club for the 29-year-old, who is currently on loan at Juventus.

Tottenham are still yet to seal any incomings so far this month.

Agbonlahor suggested there will be “negotiations that we don’t know about” taking place.

“I’m sure Spurs are doing bits behind the scenes,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

There will be negotiations that we don’t know about.

“But knowing Daniel Levy he’s not just going to pay whatever a club or agent demands. He’ll want the right deal for the right player for Conte.

“Other clubs will give a manager money. If there’s a player who a club wants £30million for but he’s really worth £20million, they’ll leave it to the manager and the chief executive to sort out.

“Daniel Levy will not pay more than £20million in that scenario if he’s worth £20million.

“That’s the problem Conte’s got. He’s got a stingy owner who is not going to pay over the odds for signings that the manager wants.”

Tottenham

Spurs are set to miss out on top targets Luis Diaz and Adama Traore.

The forwards are ready to finalise moves to Liverpool and Barcelona respectively.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a ‘hostile’ Tottenham verdict as a £3million financial blow is reported.
