Confirmed: Another Tottenham senior player undergoes surgery

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham attacker Erik Lamela has joined teammate Danny Rose in the surgery room, it was confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Sky Sports claimed on their Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the 26-year-old full-back had underwent knee surgery in the morning and is now expected to miss the start of the Premier League season.

Now, the official Tottenham Twitter account has announced a day later that right-wing man Lamela had also undergone planned surgery on his right hip, but that it would not affect his overall recovery period.

Lamela, 25, has been missing from action for Tottenham since playing 29 minutes of a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat against Liverpool in October.

His total appearances for the season stands at 14, which saw him return two goals and seven assists and he was looking to improve on his previous season’s totals.

Himself and fans will now be hoping the injury has not damaged his progression too much and that he is able to justify his pricey £25.8million price-tag which saw him make the move across to England from Roma in the summer of 2013.

The 23-time capped Argentina international could also be like a new signing next season as Mauricio Pochettino and his side look to improve on their second placing in the next campaign.
