Kieran Maguire: Asian firm to fight Google and Amazon for Tottenham naming rights – ‘I’ve heard’

Amazon and Google may have to fight off “interest from Asia” to secure naming rights for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest developments in Daniel Levy’s search for a big-money sponsor.

The Athletic reported on Monday (10 October) that Google are in meaningful talks with Spurs over a branding deal.

An industry source told Football Insider on Thursday (13 October) that retail and technology giants Amazon also remain in the mix.

Spurs, whose state-of-the-art 62,850-seater stadium opened in 2019, are likely to fetch up to £25million per year over the course of a 10-year agreement.

That figure, however, is likely to be dependent on performance-related add-ons and the value of any technology tie-in that comes with the deal.

Maguire revealed that there could be a third company in the mix as the battle to secure a deal heats up.

“Spurs will be looking to partner with somebody who can enhance the Spurs brand and get them into more living rooms,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams,

“Amazon might have an advantage because they have done the commentaries with Spurs.

“At the end of the day, it is going to be decided by finances and the fact that Spurs are looking for a blue-chip partner. They want someone whose values they align with.

“It might not just be an American company. I’ve heard there is interest from Asia as well.”
