Tottenham backed to finalise cut-price Jacob Ramsey deal after Aston Villa twist

Tottenham could agree a cut-price deal to sign Jacob Ramsey this summer as Unai Emery plans to let him leave Aston Villa.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that Villa’s financial situation means they will be open to offers for the 24-year-old as they aim to raise pure profit from his sale.

With the midfielder’s contract set to run until 2027, there is a feeling that Spurs could agree a lower fee than initially expected while Villa would still benefit from the deal.

This comes after former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham are interested in signing Ramsey and have held talks with his agent.

Thomas Frank is believed to be a big fan of the Villa academy product, while he has been a long-term target for the club’s recruitment team.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed in May that Ramsey is “unhappy” at Villa and would be open to a move for more regular starts.

Tottenham given encouragement in Jacob Ramsey pursuit

Brown previously told Football Insider that Villa will accept big offers for Ramsey as Emery is uncertain about where he features in his plans for the future.

Villa are aiming to raise funds from player sales as they aim to avoid a breach of profit and sustainability rules after coming close this summer.

Robinson explained that the midfielder is “certainly” on Frank’s list of targets and would be seen as a valuable addition to the starting XI and squad.

For Aston Villa, it would be pure profit because he’s an academy product,” he told Football Insider.

“I think the big thing with Jacob Ramsey is his contract.

“He’s got this season and next season left on his contract, so the fee would probably be appealing to Aston Villa, but it wouldn’t be as high as Tottenham are expecting.

“I think what could push the deal over the line is the profit it gives Aston Villa.

“Jacob Ramsey is certainly high on Thomas Frank’s list.

“He’s the type of player who would be a good addition to the starting XI and squad going forward.”

Evann Guessand update emerges as Spurs boosted in chase

Ramsey is not the only player Spurs have set their sights on in this transfer window, as they are also plotting a move to sign OGC Nice forward Evann Guessand.

Football Insider revealed on 4 July that Tottenham have joined the race for Guessand as Frank plans to refresh his forward line.

The likes of Brighton, West Ham and Wolves have also been linked with the Ivory Coast international, who sources say is valued at £20-25million.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Tottenham have been boosted in the Guessand race as he is not interested in a move to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
