Tottenham backed to rival Liverpool with two more signings after Yves Bissouma update - pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Tottenham could launch a Premier League title bid with two more signings after Yves Bissouma.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted an attacking midfielder and a top-quality centre-back could cement Spurs’ position in the top four next season.

Tottenham confirmed Bissouma’s capture from Brighton on Friday.

The Athletic (18 June) claim Spurs are willing to splash out on a left-sided centre-back, while they are also looking to bring Christian Eriksen back to north London.

Whelan insisted those two signings could lift Tottenham above Chelsea and into a position to battle Liverpool and Manchester City.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t see too many creative midfield players in Tottenham’s ranks like Eriksen. They went out to replace him and it never worked.

“If you’re looking at the front three of Tottenham, they would absolutely thrive off that intelligence. The vision and the quality of passing and delivery that Eriksen provides. That, to me, is priceless.

“He has proven to everybody that he is fit. His head’s in a good place, his ability’s never left him and I think he deserves this opportunity.

“He would be welcomed with open arms back at Tottenham, even despite the way he left. For player and club, I think that is now well forgotten.

“When you’ve got a player with that amount of ability, with those attacking players in front of you, you’d be daft not to bring in an Eriksen and a Bissouma.

“Those to me, and another centre half, are three pieces there that could change Tottenham from a fringe number four to pushing, possibly, for third, second and, if they’re consistent, push Man City and Liverpool.”
