Seniors omitted: This Tottenham team of young guns can sweep aside CSKA Moscow

By Emma Sanders

A draw against CSKA Moscow will secure Tottenham a place in the Europa League but Mauricio Pochettino is still likely to name a weakened side due to a heavy fixtures schedule throughout the Christmas period.

Youngsters Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and Kevin Wimmer should all be recalled to the starting XI after impressing so far this season, with senior men Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen omitted.

Winks last start came in the disappointing defeat against Monaco so he will be hoping to make amends and secure qualification to the Europa League.

Wimmer should start ahead of Dier in Tottenham’s defence, alongside Jan Vertonghen, but Danny Rose and Kyle Walker should retain their places at full-back to keep strength in the back four.

Toby Alderweireld’s and Ben Davies are still expected to miss out, along with Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela so Dele Alli should start in the front three.

Alongside Winks, Victor Wanyama should keep his place and Hugo Lloris should also remain number one, given Michael Vorm’s lack of European action this season.

Onomah should come into the attack, alongside Alli and Moussa Sissoko, while Son Heung-Min should be the player to start up front ahead of Harry Kane.

In other Tottenham news, Mauricio Pochettino has urged the club to sign a deal for this 29-year-old.
