Finance guru: Tottenham chief Levy ‘rubbing people up the wrong way’ again after star’s transfer reveal

Tottenham chief Dani Levy’s approach to transfer is always bound to “rub people the wrong way”.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Kieran Tripper’s dig at his former employer.

Trippier, who returned to the Premier League with Newcastle United in January left Spurs to sign for Atletico Madrid in 2019.

The right-back, 31, told The Athletic on Thursday (27 January) that he was “annoyed” that Levy “offered him to other clubs” months before his exit.

Plumley admitted he was not surprised by the England man’s revelation.

“It’s no secret that this is how he operates,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He’s a hard negotiator, a hard businessman. He’s done this in industries where the assets aren’t footballers.

“In football, they’re human beings, but they all have a value to their clubs. He’s got a reputation for being like this.

“No disrespect to Daniel Levy, but you wouldn’t expect anything else from him. Whether that’s right or wrong is up for debate.

“It’s his club and his business and that’s how he decides to operate. It will rub a few people up the wrong way, no doubt.

“But I don’t think he’s going to change that any time soon.”

Trippier registered two goals and 24 assists in 114 appearances in his four years at Spurs.

He was part of the side that reached that Champions League final in his last full season with the club.
