Tottenham close to agreeing £20m sale – sources
Tottenham are inching closer to completing the sale of Emerson Royal before the window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that talks between Spurs and AC Milan are ongoing for the right-back.
The Italian giants have had a couple of bids knocked back for the 25-year-old, but it now appears they’re getting closer to what Tottenham want.
The two clubs are coming close to a £15million deal that will reach £20million with add-ons, which Spurs will accept.
Pedro Porro has been established as the first-choice right-back for Ange Postecoglou, and Spurs have several other options.
Djed Spence has returned to the club following his loan at Genoa and is impressing during pre-season.
Tottenham are ready to cut ties with Emerson Royal
Royal has had a mixed relationship with the Tottenham fans, many of which believe he’s prone to a mistake.
He almost left Spurs in January following interest from the Saudi Pro League, but the club kept him as they tried to push for the top four.
Royal has been at the club since 2021 but has failed to register himself as a first-choice starter every week.
Milan will gain a versatile defender if the deal is completed, as Royal has proven his ability to play in central defence as well as at full-back.
He’s experienced at the highest level of football, with 79 Premier League appearances and 76 in La Liga.
