‘Tottenham could accept Richarlison offer’ – Stefan Borson

Richarlison is one of several Tottenham players facing an uncertain future following the club’s disappointing campaign.

Spurs currently sit 16th in the Premier League table after drawing 1-1 with West Ham on Sunday (4 May), where Wilson Odebert’s opener was cancelled out by Jarrod Bowen.

Richarlison, 27, has been linked with a return to Everton after making the £60million move to north London in 2022.

The Telegraph reported on 28 April Tottenham are facing the prospect of having to sell to buy players this summer as they owe £279million in unpaid transfer debt.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Spurs could look to sell Richarlison to help them invest in their squad ahead of the upcoming window.

The Brazil international, who is under contract until June 2027, has registered five goals and two assists in 20 appearances this season.

Tottenham face transfer blow after £30m hit

Borson revealed Tottenham’s performances in the Premier League are going to impact their budget.

He told Football Insider: “They are £20-30million down on where their budget said they’d be.

“So, all of a sudden, that’s real cash because that’s merit payments. They would have been budgeting for that money coming in the door at the end of the season, and it’s now not coming because they’re going to finish a lot lower.

“Therefore, they do have a hole in their budget. That can only be filled either with borrowing or from equity from the shareholders.

“The shareholders don’t appear to want to put any money in. ENIC doesn’t look like they’re in a position to continue to stick equity in here.

“If they’re not in a position where they can do that, then they’re going to have no option but to be quite restrained in the summer or sell players.

“Now, that’s not selling players for profit, that’s selling players probably for cash. What that means is that they can be fairly relaxed about the absolute amount that they get for a player like Richarlison.

“They can sell him for an amount that might not be an accounting profit, but which gives them the cash that they want to be able to invest in the squad.

“So, it’s not a PSR problem, but it might well be a cash issue.”

Marcus Rashford to Tottenham update emerges

Football Insider revealed on 30 April Tottenham will find a deal for Marcus Rashford difficult ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United, is admired at Spurs after they have long been interested in securing his signature.

Sources say Tottenham will need to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League to have any chance of attracting Rashford to the club.
