Tottenham could be about to sign four players – ‘they will spend very substantially’

Tottenham could sign up to four players as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Savinho, but Manchester City are understood to have rejected a £60million offer for his services.

Meanwhile, former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Eberechi Eze.

Mohammed Kudus has been the north London giant’s most expensive signing of the window, having secured a £55million deal with West Ham for his signature.

Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai have also joined Tottenham on permanent deals, taking their overall spending to around £125million, with Joao Palhinha joining on loan from Bayern Munich.

Tottenham want to sign Savinho and Eberechi Eze

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Thomas Frank will lead his side in the Champions League this season after replacing Ange Postecoglou as the new Tottenham boss.

Spurs are looking to replace James Maddison after he suffered an interior cruciate ligament injury, while former captain Son Heung-min has joined Los Angeles FC.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I think they need players.

“I mean, you’ve got a Champions League season coming. He’s probably got right now as you sit here on a run rate basis now that Son’s gone, if you looked at the revenue for this season versus the current wage bill, I bet it’s forecast to be out at like 38 per cent or something of turnover.

“It was already low at 42 per cent, which was the number for 2023-24. But right now, it’s probably below 40 per cent. It’s just too low. There has got to be some investment and there will be.

“I think they’ll sign three or four players between now and the close of the window. The only question is what price level they’re going to do. How many wingers do they need?

“I don’t know enough about what’s left at Spurs this summer and after Maddison’s injury to know whether that’s the right mix and whether they need Savinho and Eze.

“It looks like they’re after both. It doesn’t look like they’re running them sort of competitively.

“I think whatever happens, Spurs will spend in the next two weeks. I think Spurs will spend very substantially because they’ve got no choice.

“They’re in the Champions League. They just finished 17th. They lost 21 games last season. They’ve lost Son. Maddison’s injured all season.

“They have no choice but to spend.”

Tottenham stance on Aleksandar Mitrovic deal revealed

In terms of other transfer activity, Brown told Football Insider Tottenham are unlikely to pursue a move for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Leeds United had been heavily linked with the 30-year-old, but they have now signed former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Mitrovic could leave Al-Hilal this summer after they signed Darwin Nunez from Liverpool.
