Tottenham could be ‘forced’ to sack Thomas Frank – ‘This is when it will happen’

Tottenham will be forced to sack Thomas Frank if they get any closer to the relegation zone as a number of teams below them picked up points.

Frank’s side lost 2-0 to Man United at the weekend, while the likes of West Ham, Leeds and Crystal Palace all picked up vital wins in the relegation battle.

Spurs are without a victory in 11 league games and have now dropped to 15th in the table, with six points separating them from West Ham in the relegation zone.

Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club may have no choice but to sack Frank if they feel relegation is a real possibility.

Spurs have been determined to stick with their manager until now, but cannot afford to sleepwalk into relegation despite feeling their team is “too good to go down”.

Tottenham making Thomas Frank sack decision

Brown told Football Insider last month that Tottenham have delayed sacking Frank, but may be unable to hold on if they are dragged into a relegation battle.

They will now face Arsenal, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Liverpool over their next four games in a spell which could prove vital if the boss wants to keep his job.

Relegation is becoming a real worry at Tottenham,” Brown told Football Insider.

“You can look at the squad and say they’ve got enough there to stay up, but how many times have we said that before and it’s not been the case?

“If you’re not winning games, whoever you are, you’re always on the chopping block.

“It’s no different for Frank and they could be forced to make a change if things don’t improve.

“Especially now that they’re hovering above the relegation zone and teams around them are picking up points, they could easily get dragged into it.

“I think he’s a better manager than the results are showing, but ultimately it’s a results business and they’re not winning games.

“There always seems to be a bit of instability at Tottenham, things never quite go right and for every game that you see some positives, there are four where you don’t.

“I think that’s been Tottenham in a nutshell, and the manager is going to pick up the pieces for it, it’s him who will get the blame.”

Cristian Romero to be stripped of Spurs’ captaincy?

Frank’s position is not the only uncertainty at Spurs at the moment, as Cristian Romero has caused a stir following his public criticism of the club.

Brown told Football Insider on 3 February that Romero is causing problems at Tottenham behind the scenes and they are not happy with his outburst.

Following that, the defender was sent off during the defeat at Old Trafford and there are growing frustrations surrounding his recent activity.

Tottenham fans have torn into Romero in the aftermath of his sending off, which has left his team facing yet more hardship in the coming weeks.

As a result, some have suggested Romero could be stripped of the Tottenham captaincy, with his display having let down both the manager and the supporters.
