Pundit issues ‘£60m’ Tottenham transfer claim after Christian Eriksen update
Christian Eriksen’s Tottenham exit will be “forgotten” if he can be a success after returning to the club, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a player like the 30-year-old would cost Antonio Conte’s side “£50-60million”.
A recruitment source told this site on Sunday (17 April) that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Eriksen as they plot a stunning free transfer this summer.
It is believed the Denmark international would be keen on a sensational return to the club where he spent seven years – if a deal can be agreed.
Eriksen left Tottenham in January 2020 after refusing to sign a new deal amid friction with then-boss Jose Mourinho.
Whelan suggested the midfielder could bring much-needed “quality” to the Spurs side.
“I don’t think people will be forgetting how he left Tottenham,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“The performances he put in at the end of his time there, you could tell he wanted to leave.
“It wasn’t like he left Tottenham as a hero. It wasn’t nice for a team that gave him so much.
“Then again, can you ignore the quality he would bring to the side? Especially for a Tottenham team that could really do with a player like him.
“It’s a free transfer as well. To bring a player like him in, you’re talking at least £50-60million. He’s obviously got a good relationship with Conte, so that will change things as well.
“I’m sure if he brings his form from Brentford over to Tottenham, a lot of things will be forgotten.”

Conte and Eriksen enjoyed great success together at Inter Milan and helped the Italian giants end an 11-year wait for the Serie A title last season.
The Dane has notched one goal and two assists in six Premier League games since joining Brentford in January.
