Tottenham could sign 'perfect' Cristian Romero ally after source's £45m reveal - pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted the “perfect” arrival of Villarreal star Pau Torres at could “really compliment” Tottenham defensive king Cristian Romero.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged Spurs to “move quickly” to secure the 25-year-old’s signature this summer.
As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday (7 May), Tottenham have set sights on Torres and are confident he can be signed for around £45million, £10m less than his release clause.
The Spain international has a £55million release clause in his contract – but the La Liga side are expected to cash in this summer.
Torres, who is out of contract in June 2024, has notched 43 appearances this term – including 11 in Europe.
Whelan hinted at a “lot of outgoings” at Tottenham this summer – including Davinson Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon, and Emerson Royal.

“I think he’s another top player who would really compliment Romero – and vice versa,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Dier and Davies have been doing fantastic work – but that would just take that defence to the next level. It would also leave the door open for a three at the back system.
“I think there’ll be a lot of outgoings in that Tottenham defence. Sanchez, Reguilon, Royal – I’m not convinced they are Conte’s cup of tea.
“He’d be the perfect signing, but they’ll have to move quickly. I can’t see it just being Tottenham in for him.
“Without Champions League football – they could struggle to get it over the line.”
Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League.
Antonio Conte’s side must beat Arsenal on Thursday (12 May) to have a chance at Champions League qualification.
