‘Tottenham deal is going to be done – I expect the final price to be £12m’

Tottenham are expected to appoint Brentford boss Thomas Frank to replace trophy-winning former manager Ange Postecoglou.

Football Insider revealed on 7 June that Spurs are closing in on the appointment of Frank, with the Bees expected to tap Kieran McKenna as a potential replacement.

Spurs will have to pay £10million to Brentford to release the Dane from his current role.

Frank has been with the west London outfit since 2018 and achieved promotion via the Championship play-offs in the 2020-21 campaign before helping them stabilise in the Premier League.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted he expects the final compensation figure to stand at around £12million after deals for backroom staff are negotiated.

Tottenham negotiating Thomas Frank arrival and multiple other Brentford deals

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted he expects compensation fees for managers to grow in the coming years.

The current world record for a manager appointment is reportedly Chelsea’s 2021 capture of Graham Potter – with the Blues paying £21.5million to Brighton for the English boss.

Wyness insisted Tottenham paying £12million to land Frank is “not ridiculous” despite being on the high side historically.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think this deal is going to be done, there’s no doubt.

“The negotiation will now be about which of his backroom staff will join as well.

“I’d expect the deal to end up at around £12million in compensation.

“But if you look at what Frank could bring in terms of contacts with players, they could save that on one transfer.

“He’ll be able to attract the players with his knowledge. I don’t think that’s a ridiculous fee for a top manager.

“Clubs invest in managers and I expect this side of the game to grow as clubs try and stick to these managers.

“They are a very valuable piece of equipment in the football club machinery.

“That value is being reflected here. It’s almost like being the first £100,000 player. We’re going to see it go up and up from here.”

Frank not planning Brentford raid

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (10 June) that Frank is unlikely to raid Brentford this summer as he prepares to take the job at Tottenham.

Frank admires several Brentford stars, including in-demand duo Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbuemo, after crafting the side over his seven years in charge – but is unlikely to raid his former side in this window.

Mbeumo has been linked with Tottenham but is widely expected to join Man United after making his preference clear in recent days.
