Tottenham dealt crushing setback as key man facing three-month absence – Times
By Matt Farr
Tottenham attacker Son Heung-Min could be set to face up to three months on the sidelines after suffering a broken arm, according to a report.
The Times claim that the 24-year-old may now miss the start of the 2017-18 campaign, which could provide a crushing blow to Tottenham’s ambitions.
Son suffered a fracture to his forearm whilst on international duty with South Korea in Qatar last week, and after returning to his homeland, was rushed to hospital to assess the extent of the injury.
The attacker has since undergone surgery, where his fracture was realigned and then stabilised with metal plates and screws.
His forearm will remain bound by a cast for at least two weeks, but his rehabilitation process could see him miss out on much of Tottenham’s pre-season preparations.
Son was a key man for Spurs last season as the club sealed a top-four finish and qualification for the Champions League for the second successive season.
He netted 21 goals and supplied 10 assists from 47 appearances in all competitions, including six goals and an assist from just five matches as Tottenham reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup – where they lost to Chelsea.
The 55-time international will need to re-visit hospital in South Korea for further treatment before he begins his rehabilitation, and doctors envisage him spending at least four weeks out before beginning his pre-season work.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have yet to put their own timescale on Son’s return.
The Premier League side are already reeling from the news that crocked stars Danny Rose and Erik Lamela could also miss the start of the new season.
In other Tottenham news, the club have reportedly been given an emphatic response to this ambitious bid.
