Tottenham news: ‘Surprise’ development at Hotspur Way today – sources

Tottenham have continued their preparations for the return of the domestic season with a “surprise” friendly against Peterborough United on Wednesday, sources have told Football Insider.

Antonio Conte’s side are taking on the League One outfit in a specially arranged behind-closed doors friendly at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground.

Conte is keen to have his squad up to speed before the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day and the clash against Peterborough will allow him to give his players much-needed minutes under their belts.

News of the friendly has gone under the radar and there has been no mention of it on official club media accounts, including the Spurs website and Twitter account.

Spurs were one of only a few Premier League teams not to use the World Cup break to travel abroad for a warm weather training camp.

They opted to stay in England for a mini pre-season ahead of the return of competitive football.

Tottenham played Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in a friendly last Friday in their first outing since the Premier League stopped due to the World Cup break.

Conte’s side ran out 4-0 winners against Motherwell and Conte is expected to make full use of his available squad against Peterborough as they step up for their preparations for the resumption of the campaign.

Tottenham have also arranged a friendly with French side Nice on 21 December at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of their return to Premier League action with their Boxing Day trip to Brentford.

The London giants are fourth in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
