Matt Doherty ‘won’t be at Tottenham next season’ after source’s reveal today
Matt Doherty “won’t be at Tottenham next season” despite his recent return to the team from the fringes.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking to Football Insider about the future of the 30-year-old wing-back.
Doherty was named in the Spurs starting XI for the second time this season for Saturday evening’s Premier League clash against Everton as Emerson Royal served the second game of a three-match suspension.

Emerson had started the midweek Champions League win over Frankfurt and has started all four matches in the competition as well as the first seven of Tottenham’s domestic league fixtures.
A Spurs sources told Football Insider that the club had listened to offers for Doherty during the summer window.
Kenny does not see him as part of Antonio Conte’s long-term planning, despite his recent involvement.
“Emerson is the first choice right-back, and he is obviously Conte’s main man for that wing-back role he prefers,” Kenny told Football Insider.
“Spurs signed Djed Spence for the future and paid a lot of money for him – £20million. So, they will look to develop him and get him used to Conte’s system this season. He’s young and has room to improve.
“Doherty is the odd one out here. He has the kind of experience that Conte likes, and there is no doubting he understands the Premier League.

“But he struggled last season and has not shown enough for the club to want to made him a regular, and keep him long-term.
Doherty has made 60 appearances for Spurs since signing from Wolves in the summer of 2020 for £15million.
