Key Tottenham duo surprisingly omitted from FIFA Premier League Team of the Season

By Aramide Oladipo

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and central defender Toby Alderweireld have been left out of the EA Sports FIFA 17 Premier League Team of the Season starting lineup.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was selected ahead of the French national team captain, despite the fact that the 30-year-old goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than the Spanish international in the Premier League this season.

Lloris has kept a total of 15 clean sheets in the league this season, a total only bettered by Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who has achieved 16.

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta was given the nod ahead of Toby Alderweireld despite the Belgian international being an essential part of the team with the best defensive record in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham have only conceded 25 goals in the league this season and the 28-year-old defender has been at the heart of the Spurs defence, making 28 Premier League appearances and achieving 14 clean sheets in the process.

Despite these two key players being left out of the team of the season, Spurs still dominated the rest of the eleven selected as Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane were all included.

Chelsea players Eden Hazard, Marcos Alonso and N’Golo Kante were also involved in the list including Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Liverpool forward Saido Mane.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs will finally hold aloft the Premier League trophy if they can convince this defender to forego retirement.
