Sources: Major development in Tottenham bid to sign Christian Eriksen

Tottenham have pulled the plug on their bid to sign Christian Eriksen, Football Insider understands.

The Londoners have held talks with the Denmark international about a potential summer deal but discussions have not progressed.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the club are concentrating on other targets and Eriksen is not currently on their radar.

Man United

There is a possibility the London giants could reignite their interest at the end of the window should Eriksen still be without a club.

But that is believed to be unlikely, with Man United and Brentford both pushing hard for a deal.

It now appears to be a two-horse race for the 30-year-old, made such a big impact for the west Londoners following his stunning resurgence this year.

United and Brentford have both submitted contract offers to Eriksen and detailed how he fits in their plans for next season.

Eriksen has admitted he has a big decision to make over his future after impressing during his short-term contract at Brentford.

The attacking midfielder is out of contract from the end of June and able to negotiate a free transfer.

Tottenham fans will be disappointed that a sensational return to the club for one of their greatest players of the modern era is now off the cards.

Eriksen, who has 111 Denmark caps, contributed 69 goals and 90 assists in 305 appearances during his first spell at Spurs.

“Christian Eriksen is still a phenomenal player,” ex-Leeds striker Whelan told Football Insider. “Everything went through him at Brentford and his creativity and vision remains top class.

“There were obviously question marks over his fitness and stamina over 90-minute matches. But he’s answered them and I’m not surprised Tottenham and Man United have both been looking at him.”
