Harry Kane is set to start for Tottenham in their Premier League clash against Chelsea today (Sunday) but Toby Alderweireld will once again be omitted, according to a report.
Football London claim goal king Kane is in line to make a miraculous recovery from the ankle ligament damage he suffered against Bournemouth three weeks ago.
The Spurs talisman is set to spearhead the attack, supported by attacking midfield trio Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min, with Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura dropped from the side that beat Swansea in the FA Cup before the international break.
Football London report that Mauricio Pochettino is expected to persist with Davinson Sanchez as Jan Vertonghen’s centre-back partner even though Alderweireld is fully fit after playing 90 minutes for Belgium in midweek.
Expected Spurs XI: Lloris; Tripper, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane.
Football Insider verdict:
A considerable section of Spurs fans have been calling not only for the club to agree new contract terms with Alderweireld, but also recall him to the starting XI now that he is fully recovered from the hamstring problems that have ruined his season. Many regard him as not only the club’s outstanding defender, but one of the best in world football, and believe that Tottenham cannot afford to either omit the Belgian now, or build for the future without him at White Hart Lane. If Toby is left out again, expected Spurs Twitter to go berserk this afternoon.
