Mauricio Pochettino has some big selection decisions to make for Tottenham’s crunch league clash against Chelsea on Saturday when the Premier League reconvenes after a fortnight’s break.
He rested a few of the big guns for the FA Cup win at Swansea but is certain to select his strongest available XI for Spurs’ first league encounter in three weeks.
Spurs currently sit five points above Chelsea in the table, and could put a considerable dent in their rivals hopes to make the top four, and compete in next season’s Champions League, with a win on Sunday.
There is plenty of history between the two clubs – who can forget the end-of-season battle of the Bridge two years ago? – as well as plenty of boardroom animosity.
Tottenham are certainly not short of motivation for the mouthwatering showdown, and will be pleased that the Sunday kick-off allows them more preparation time following the international break.
Does Pochettino recall Toby Alderweireld, who played twice for Belgium over the last week? Will Harry Kane be fast-tracked back into the team three weeks after damaging ankle ligaments.
Football Insider names the likely Tottenham starting XI against Chelsea, which includes three changes from the team that beat Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, and comes after a major manager update.
