Tottenham expert digs Alessandro Bastoni’s agent for ‘stirring the pot’ after social media update

Fans should not read into Alessandro Bastoni’s decision to follow two Tottenham players on Instagram.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 2 June, Tottenham fans spotted Bastoni had followed Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso on Instagram after Italy’s game against Argentina on 1 July.

This site revealed on 25 May that Spurs have identified Bastoni, as their first choice left-sided centre-back this summer and updated on 27 May that the club were ready to submit their opening bid.

Wenham insists nothing can be read into Bastoni’s social media updates.

“That’s a bog-standard thing of an agent encouraging a player to do that because he knows that’s what happens now, it keeps the pot stirring,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“With Bastoni it seems simple. Tottenham are willing to push the boat out to get the player.

“Bastoni is an Inter Milan fan, he came through at the club. He is not desperate to leave Inter and I think that is fair enough.

“But it seems like Inter are in need of selling a big player because of their financial situation.

“Who have they got as a sellable asset? They have him and Martinez. Sometimes a player doesn’t need to actively push for a transfer.

“He says he loves the club, that’s fine. A move can still happen. He can leave still loving the club, it doesn’t have to end on acrimonious terms.

“There may come a time when Inter sit down with him and say they need money to sign a new a centre-back and maybe Lukaku as well.

“Tottenham have the money and it stands there has been no talk of Bastoni coming out and saying he won’t move.”
