Tottenham expert drops ‘big’ Harry Winks claim after deal agreed

Selling Harry Winks for £10million was a good piece of business for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton said the biggest thing for Winks at new club Leicester City is to try and stay fit.

On 1 July Leicester confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old for a reported fee of £10m.

Winks began his career in Spurs’ academy and worked his way through the age groups but struggled for game time latterly.

He spent the 2022-23 season on loan with Italian side Sampdoria where he made 20 appearances after missing almost half of the campaign with an ankle injury.

The midfielder made 203 appearances for Spurs and netted five goals in those outings but had fallen down the pecking order in recent years, making just 19 Premier League appearances in the 2021-22 season.

Hutton was impressed the Lilywhites were able to get a decent fee out of Winks.

It has been difficult for him over the last couple of seasons not playing at Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

I think he is a really talented footballer. I think an opportunity for him to go into a competitive league to a team that is going to be looking to bounce straight back up.

£10m in for Tottenham I think is a good deal and Leicester are getting an extremely talented footballer with a lot of experience.

The big thing for him is just to stay fit.
