Tottenham expert drops ‘massive’ verdict on permanent Timo Werner move

Timo Werner has not done enough to justify a permanent move to Tottenham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton admitted that Werner, 28, has shown flashes of quality but does not possess the cutting edge needed to make a major difference for the Lilywhites.

The German moved to Tottenham on a six-month loan deal from RB Leipzig in January and has been a mainstay having started 10 Premier League games.

However, he is set to miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, while Postecoglou noted that the club are yet to make a decision regarding a permanent move.

Werner too inconsistent for permanent Tottenham move – Hutton

Hutton claimed that Spurs would be better off entering the market this summer for attacking reinforcements rather than sticking with the often-misfiring Werner.

“I’m not totally convinced they should sign him permanently,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t think he’s done quite enough to get that move.

“He has the attributes to be a massive player and be the difference-maker, but we haven’t seen it enough at Tottenham.

“For Spurs to be unsure about him, it will probably come down to the money and the wages.

“Werner definitely has something.

“He gets into good positions, I just don’t think he takes advantage enough.

“That has always been a question mark over him at different clubs too, so it will be an interesting one.

“Just at this moment in time, I just don’t think he’s done enough and they should probably look elsewhere.”
