Tottenham expert fears ‘weird’ Harry Kane contract clause is causing ‘utterly baffling’ problem

Harry Kane’s poor free-kick taking is damaging Tottenham and Eric Dier should take them instead.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Despite this, he still takes them on a regular basis despite the occasion becoming an inside joke for Spurs fans.

Wenham has speculated the reason Kane is still allowed to take free kicks and even suggested it could be written into his contract.

“This whole thing is like when he used to be on corners for England,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Either in training, he is unbelievable at free-kicks or it’s written into his contract in some weird clause that he can take them.

“That’s not the kind of thing people do but it would explain why he keeps taking them.

“It is utterly bizarre to me that he consistently takes them, missed, and no one says anything.

“Dier has taken about 10 free-kicks in his entire life and I have seen him score one for England.

“Why he isn’t on free-kicks ahead of Kane, I don’t know.

“As much as Kane is my favourite player of all time, he is rubbish at free-kicks and him taking them is a detriment to the team.

“We are wasting vital opportunities, he’s just not good at them. It’s as simple as that.”
