Tottenham expert has theory on Mathys Tel ‘attitude problem’ after surprise deal
Tottenham completed the loan signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window in what was viewed as a coup for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
However, he has endured a frustrated start to his time at Spurs amid questions about why Bayern Munich were willing to let him leave mid-way through the season.
Postecoglou’s side were able to complete the loan signing amid a lack of direct competition as the likes of Man United and Chelsea decided against pursuing his signature.
Ex-Tottenham man Paul Robinson previously told Football Insider that Tottenham are planning to sign Tel permanently this summer.
Robinson previously speculated that Harry Kane was key for Tel joining Tottenham as Bayern Munich may have received a financial offset towards the Englishman’s deal.
The former Spurs goalkeeper, speaking to Football Insider, has now questioned whether off-field issues played a part in his departure from Bayern Munich.
On top of that, he has also raised concerns about the lack of competition for his signature in January and the reasons Bayern were so willing to let him leave.

Tottenham star Mathys Tel questioned after Bayern Munich exit
After a slow start to his career in North London, Tottenham fans have slammed Tel and called for the termination of his loan following his performance v Man City.
Now, Robinson has suggested that the forward has a lot of questions that need answering including emerging concerns about potential off-field issues.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson questioned why a player with the reputation and quality of Tel was so keen to join 15th-placed Tottenham mid-way through what has been a poor season.
“There are a lot of questions I have over Tel,” he told Football Insider.
“If you look for his age, he’s one of the best talents in Europe, so why would he sign for Tottenham when they’re 15th in the Premier League?
“Look at his reputation, the quality of the player, the quality and the talent he’s got, why didn’t Bayern Munich want him and why did they allow him to leave?
“Why were Tottenham the only ones who wanted him?
“He turned them down at the beginning of the window and then realised nobody else had come in for him and in the end he signed for Tottenham.
“Is there an attitude problem or an application problem? Is there anything off the field that we don’t know?
“He’s not a number nine, he’s only playing there because Dominic Solanke is injured.
“He’s a wide attacking player, similar to others they’ve got in that area, he hasn’t led the line well enough and hasn’t got the goals.”

Tel’s performances filling in for Solanke during his recent spell on the sidelines through injury has raised concerns about the squad’s lack of depth up front.
As a result, they are expected to turn to the transfer market this summer in an effort to find a new forward to either play alongside or as a backup for the England international.
Football Insider revealed on 7 March that Tottenham have joined Arsenal’s interest in Benjamin Sesko and have placed him on their list of targets.
However, the Gunners are currently leading the race for his signature and are eyeing his £58million release clause ahead of the summer transfer window.
