Tottenham expert issues 'surprise' Jeff Vetere claim after source's 'exclusive'

It is “slightly surprising” that Jeff Vetere has been out of work since 2018 ahead of his imminent arrival at Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Football Insider broke the news on Tuesday (20 September) the Londoners are close to agreeing a deal for former Aston Villa and Newcastle United man Vetere to head their Under-21s recruitment.

The 56-year-old has not held a senior recruitment post since being sacked as Birmingham City director of football in March 2018 at the same time Steve Cotterill lost his job as manager.

However, this is not a concern for Wenham.

“Tottenham have made some more additions to the backroom staff, we seem to be adding someone every week,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I saw Football Insider break the story about Jeff Vetere, formally of Real Madrid and Newcastle. It seems like he is formally of everywhere.

“It is slightly surprising to see he has been out of work since 2018 but I say that knowing how these things work.

“He has probably been working as a consultant, picking up a nice pay packet giving recommendations for somebody. He hasn’t been at home watching Come Dine With Me.

“Always welcome. A later report from Alasdair Gold said he has been working with the club for a few weeks.

He is basically scouting players for our Under-21s squad.

“It seems like we are trying to do something a bit like Man City and Chelsea have been doing.”
