Tottenham expert issues three-word verdict on Marc Guehi signing after journalist’s update

Paul Robinson has poured cold water on the idea of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi moving to Tottenham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested the 21-year-old is low down Spurs’ list of targets with a centre-back from Italy more likely.

Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are in the market for a left-sided centre-half this summer.

Tottenham

According to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones (25 May), Spurs are interested in signing Guehi after an impressive Premier League campaign.

Guehi only joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea 12 months ago.

He has four years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

When asked by Football Insider if Guehi could be the answer for Spurs, Robinson issued a three-word verdict: “Not for me.

“Guehi is a good player but he’s had one good season.

“It would be a difficult deal for Spurs to do from Palace. I think the Italian market is one they will more likely try to exploit than the English market.

“Guehi has had a really good season in a transformed Palace side. Then will not want to break up a team that has only just started under Patrick Vieira.

“Spurs will look to the Italian market before doing business in the Premier League. It’s a lot cheaper.”

Guehi was one of Palace’s standout performers in the 2021-22 campaign.

He made 42 appearances across all competitions.

In other news, a pundit can’t believe Tottenham could complete a £50million deal for Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.
