Tottenham expert lambasts selfish rivals after statement released
John Wenham can’t believe how Rennes have conducted themselves in the aftermath of the cancelled European clash against Tottenham.
Spurs insider Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, admits he was surprised by the French side’s actions.
On 8 December, Rennes released a scathing statement, criticising Tottenham’s own statement regarding the fixture set to be played between the sides on Thursday (9 December).
On 8 December, Tottenham released a statement saying the game would not be going ahead, despite no confirmation from UEFA.
Wenham was left disappointed by Rennes’ conduct considering their place in the Europa Conference League knockout rounds is already confirmed.
“The fact Rennes are already qualified and they are already through, I don’t see why they are digging their heels in,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They are being so difficult about this. Two unnecessary statements have been released and neither of them wished the Tottenham players well.
“Not even a small paragraph at the end. It was just ‘we aren’t happy’ and all of that. I mean come on, really?
“It’s not like it’s a long journey from Rennes, it’s an hour away. Tottenham going to Newcastle takers longer.
“I really don’t get why they are upset about this considering they are guaranteed to finish top.
“It seems very unreasonable to me. We have had a serious Covid outbreak, there is nothing we could have done.
“We shut down the training ground, this was a serious thing.
“I was really disappointed with Rennes and how they conducted themselves.”

UEFA have confirmed the game will not be rescheduled.
The result of the game will be decided by a disciplinary panel.
