Tottenham expert names two ‘brilliant’ replacements for Hugo Lloris after transfer update

Paul Robinson has named Jordan Pickford and Jan Oblak as potential replacements for Hugo Lloris at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number said Pickford, 28, “is more than capable” of playing for a Champions League club.

Lloris, 36, has come under criticism for his performances this season.

According to the Mirror‘s John Richardson (7 January), Spurs are interested in signing Pickford to replace Lloris.

The Everton shot-stopper has 18 months left on his contract at Goodison Park.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest, Robinson said: “Fraser Forster is certainly not the long-term answer.

“If they are to replace Hugo Lloris they will have to look elsewhere. They will have to sign a top-class goalkeeper to replace him. Ideally, it would have to be someone on a par with Ederson and Alisson [Becker].

“I think Jordan Pickford is more than capable of playing at a top-four club. Yes, he is not on the level of Ederson and Alisson but he has been brilliant for England in the big games.

“The other one would be Jan Oblak. I am surprised he has not come to the Premier League already. He is a top goalkeeper and has been for a long time. He would be a very good successor to Hugo.

“There is no immediate clamour to replace Hugo but it is something the club will be looking at.”
