Tottenham expert: Vicario concern emerges after Man City twist
Guglielmo Vicario’s weakness from set-pieces has raised concerns about his ability in between the sticks for Tottenham this season.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Paul Robinson insisted the goalkeeper has been a big part of the problems Tottenham have had dealing with set-pieces.
Ange Postecoglou’s team have conceded 16 goals from set-plays this season, the sixth-most in the Premier League.
The former Spurs keeper was full of praise for Vicario but explained that Premier League clubs will continue to exploit his weakness.
Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario must improve as weakness exploited
The FA Cup clash was highlighted as a turning point, with Spurs fans having previously turned on the keeper for his display, as Football Insider shared.
Robinson insisted that Vicario will have been working on this in training, but must continue to improve during his time in North London.
“I think he’s struggled in the second half of the season,” he told Football Insider.
“I was, and still am, a big fan of his. I think he started the season really well, he makes great saves and great decisions.
“His depth perception is fantastic because, with the defence playing such a high line, he has to read the game so well and he’s very good at that.
“But Manchester City came to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January and highlighted the problem with Spurs and set plays.
“Vicario has been part of that problem. He gets involved too much, at times, with the attackers around him. He’s far too interested in the impact of the players to concentrate on the ball.

“Yes, I think he’s good enough, but this is an area of his game that’s been flagged as a weakness and something he’s going to need to continue working on.
“When Premier League teams get that hint of weakness, they try to highlight it every week.”
