Tottenham face ‘huge’ crypto ramifications after US election – Ex-PL CEO

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Tottenham could benefit from “huge moves” in the cryptocurrency market after the US presidential election.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed crypto in football could explode with more regulation, replacing “dangerous gambling companies”.

Tottenham announced earlier this month (16 July) their new partnership with Official Crypto and Web3 partner Kraken.

As part of the deal, the company will appear on the club’s shirt sleeves for the 2024-25 campaign.

Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have both courted votes from cryptocurrency investors in the run-up to November’s election.

Tottenham could get crypto boost after US election, says Wyness

Wyness expects a “big move into sport” once more regulation is introduced.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I thought cryptocurrency would be a lot more dominant in football than it has been.

“The jury has always been out on crypto as to whether it was in or out.

“Even back in my time at Villa, 2017 or 2018, we were looking at crypto at that time.

“This is bold from Kraken, and I sense that after the US election, we could see some huge moves in the crypto market.

“I’ve always felt football is the right market to promote these platforms.

“It’s just a case of getting the well-run, stable and well-regulated names in.

“If the Premier League can do that, it could be better than some of these really dangerous gambling companies.

“We’ll see a big move into sport once the regulation is there.

“Up until now, it’s been like the Wild West. That’s been the problem.

“I can see it being very widespread as they try and reach that global male market.”
