Tottenham fans took to social media to applaud Nemanja Matic’s superb goal which sealed defeat for Spurs in their FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
The Serbian’s 80th minute 30-yard strike, which arrowed into the top right hand corner of Hugo Lloris’ net, took the score to 4-2 and secured the victory for Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea in a pulsating tie.
Tottenham had managed to come from behind twice to bring the scores to 2-2, but an Eden Hazard effort and Matic’s powerful finish meant that Spurs left Wembley having lost their seventh consecutive FA Cup semi-final.
The two sides, who are also battling out at the top of the Premier League table, provided a thrilling encounter for fans, Chelsea taking an early lead through a Willian free kick.
Harry Kane equalised for Tottenham, before Brazilian Willian scored another set piece just before half time, this time from the penalty spot after Son Heung-min fouled Victor Moses.
Dele Alli managed to bring Spurs level yet again, converting from close range after a delightful ball into the box from fellow midfielder Christian Eriksen.
However Chelsea turned the screw and after Eden Hazard scored from a well worked corner, the Belgian turned creator to tee up Matic, who blasted the ball into the Tottenham net.
Despite the loss, even Tottenham fans took to Twitter to applaud the Serbian’s strike.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
That goal from Matic is worthy of winning any game. Shame we haven't made the most of being on top for the majority of it
