Tottenham fans highly suspicious after ‘shock’ Cristian Romero news

Tottenham supporters have struggled to get excited about Cristian Romero’s return from injury after being pictured in training on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since early December with a hamstring injury, last featuring in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea, joining fellow defender Micky van de Ven on the treatment table.

Ange Postecoglou has been under immense pressure at Tottenham, suffering without his first-choice back-four and seeing his team spiral down to 12th in the Premier League table.

Son Heung-min’s form has diminished dramatically for Tottenham, though after recent back-to-back wins over Man United and Ipswich Town, Spurs might finally be able to build some form.

Romero has now been pictured back in training, though many fans are sceptical about the timing of his return ahead of the Lilywhites’ heavyweight clash with Man City.

Cristian Romero returns just ahead of the international break

The Argentina international has made a bad name for himself when it comes to recovering just in time for the two-week break with his national team before then getting re-injured.

Fans were extremely frustrated when the centre-back was allowed to join his international teammates last time, having only just returned to the Spurs squad from a previous injury problem.

Unsurprisingly, those same supporters have called the timing of his return on this occasion into question, and suggest the defender has an ulterior motive behind it.

Ange Postecoglou handed huge boost ahead of Man City clash

Only time will tell whether Romero will be fit enough to face Man City on Wednesday (26 February), and potentially help Postecoglou to a third consecutive win over Pep Guardiola, who could be in his final season at Man City.

The addition of Kevin Danso has been extremely welcomed at Hotspur Way, but with either Archie Gray or Ben Davies completing the centre-back partnership, Spurs have struggled with keeping clean sheets.

By no means should that be seen as a dig at Gray, who has already been tipped for stardom at Tottenham, as he continues to play out of position.

Nonetheless, having Romero back fit and available would be a huge boost, especially with the Europa League title still on the table for Spurs, yet supporters cannot shake the sceptical feeling around their star player.
