‘Liability’, ‘Not good enough for us’ – Fans slaughter Tottenham player after win v Chelsea
By Richard Parks
Tottenham fans took to Twitter to lay into Eric Dier for his performance in the team’s 3-1 Premier League win against Chelsea on Sunday.
The England international was paired with Mousa Dembele in central midfield in Mauricio Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 system spearheaded by Son Heung-Min.
With Harry Kane deemed only fit enough to start on the bench three weeks after damaging ankle ligaments, Chelsea took the lead after 30 minutes when Hugo Lloris misjudged a Victor Moses cross and Alvaro Morata headed in to the empty net.
But Christian Eriksen levelled on the cusp of half-time with a sensational dipping long-range strike and Dele Alli marked his 100th Premier League match with a fantastically taken second-half double.
The victory extended Spurs’ lead over Chelsea in the race for the four Champions League places to eight points.
But a section of supporters on social media were unimpressed with the performance of Dier, who was replaced after 81 minutes by Victor Wanyama.
One labelled the 24-year-old as “not good enough for us”, while he was also slammed as a “liability” and “terrible”.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
In other Tottenham news, the club are working on a deal to sign a 29-year-old left footer who would be a sensational signing.
