‘I’ve never cringed harder’ – Tottenham fans tear into Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after display against West Ham

Tottenham fans have ripped into Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for his performance in their surprise 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old made just his third Premier League start of the campaign as Spurs suffered their fourth defeat in five and dropped points from a winning position for a fifth consecutive game.

It is Spurs’ longest winless run since November 2019 and has left them nine points behind leaders Arsenal following the midweek round of fixtures.

Tottenham have been badly hit by a devastating injury list and that has deprived them of multiple regular starters including those integral to the outstanding early season run.

On Thursday, Cristian Romero’s early header had given Spurs a deserved opener in the 11th minute but Jarrod Bowen fired in a 52nd-minute equaliser before James Ward-Prowse knocked in off his own rebound to complete West Ham’s turnaround in the 74th minute.

Tottenham fans identified Hojbjerg as a weak link in the home display after he got the nod to make the starting XI.

The Dane has mainly been used as a substitute by Ange Postecoglou this season after being a mainstay of the team under previous managers.

His 632 minutes of action in all competitions this campaign have included 14 Premier League appearances, but only three of those have been from the start.
