Toby Alderweireld is in contention to make his Tottenham comeback in Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Swansea City – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino explained at his media briefing at lunchtime today (Thursday) that the Belgium international has a chance of playing in the quarter final at the Liberty Stadium, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of Spurs journalist Ben Pearce.
#thfc Pochettino says Toby Alderweireld returned to training on Tuesday and has a chance of playing v Swansea. Pochettino on Kane’s injury: “He’s a warrior. I think he put his leg in a washing machine to try to score. Maybe another player says ‘I’m not going to take a risk’.”

The centre-back tore his hamstring at the start of November and hasn’t made a Premier League appearance for Tottenham since the end of October.
He made a return in the FA Cup recently but aggravated his hamstring again and has had another spell out.
But Alderweireld returned to full training on Tuesday and is well placed to return to the Spurs matchday squad as they aim to end their 10-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup.
A section of Spurs fans on social media called the return of the Belgian “excellent news” and said they were “so glad”, with many adding they wanted the player to end his contract stalemate with the club and pen a new deal.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Tottenham have used Davinson Sanchez as Jan Vertonghen’s central defensive partner for most of the time during Alderweireld’s absence, although Pochettino has occasionally dropped Eric Dier back and deployed a three-man defence.
Some supporters have been critical of Sanchez’s occasional rashness and positioning errors, including in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League.
In other Tottenham news, Mauricio Pochettino has been at the centre of a huge Spurs dressing room bust-up.
