Tottenham fans reacted with excitement on Twitter after their star defender Toby Alderweireld was included in the 40-man nomination list to be included in the UEFA Team of the Year.
The centre-back has been one of Tottenham’s best players since he signed for £11.5 million from Southampton in July 2015 and has gone on to make 59 appearances in all competitions for the club.
Alderweireld has been absent for five weeks after he picked up a knee injury during his side’s 1-1 draw against West Brom on 15th October.

The 27-year-old has formed a terrific partnership with compatriot Jan Vertonghen in the Tottenham side and they are widely regarded as the Premier League’s best centre-back pairing.
Tottenham ended the 2015-16 season in third position in the league table and they had one of the best defensive records – conceding just 35 goals – less than half the number of relegated side, Aston Villa.
In the 48 Premier League and Europa League games Alderweireld featured in last season, Tottenham kept 15 clean sheets and lost just nine of those fixtures.
Spurs remain unbeaten this season despite a scare during their late 3-2 victory against West Ham on Saturday and they are now preparing for tough fixtures against Monaco and Chelsea this week.
Fans are proud of Alderweireld’s inclusion in the prestigious Uefa list.

That's great! And even greater would be him being named in Spurs team of the week-end. (We miss ya, man.)
