Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Son Heung-Min display v Southampton

By Matt Farr

Son Heung-Min had a quiet afternoon during Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday – and fans on Twitter were unhappy with his ineffective display.

Attacking midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli found the back of the net for Tottenham, who hosted the Saints at White Hart Lane without lead goalscorer Harry Kane.

In his absence, 24-year-old Son Heung-Min was tasked with leading the line for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but fans were not convinced by his performance.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The South Korea international scored a superb hat-trick during the 6-0 win over Millwall a week ago, but failed to reach such heights against a much sterner Southampton unit.

He had a golden opportunity to net his fourth goal in a week, but spent too much time on the ball before pulling the trigger in the box, allowing the Southampton defence to make a vital block.

The chance remained Son’s only real clear cut opportunity to hit the target, in what was a rather isolated afternoon for the forward.

He was later withdrawn for young midfield star Harry Winks, before Vincent Janssen was introduced as the centre-forward in the dying moments.

But Tottenham fans appeared happier with the cameo display from Janssen than they were with Son, with the two players set to go head-to-head again for a starting role when Tottenham take on Burnley after the international break.

Nevertheless, Son has still contributed 14 goals and seven assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.
