Tottenham fans have reacted with surprise on Twitter after Mauricio Pochettino decided to give Kevin Wimmer his first Premier League start of the season against Arsenal.
The Austria international has failed to feature from the off this season in the league, but Pochettino has decided to throw him in at the deep end.
It comes after questionable performances from England international Eric Dier at the heart of the Spurs defence, who has been moved to his more recognisable role at the base of Tottenham’s midfield.
Belgium international Toby Alderweireld is yet to recover from a knee injury despite hopes that he might make the North London derby, so 23-year-old Wimmer is given his chance alongside Jan Vertonghen.
Tottenham fans are shocked on Twitter, with many worried that the selection of Wimmer could prove costly as he is thrown into a baptism of fire.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Wimmer is the interesting call. Looked off the pace at Anfield.

Wow, a genuine Wimmer sighting! Never thought I'd see the day!

Fancy Arsenal to run riot against Spurs. Wimmer at the back & an unfit Kane up front for Spurs won't do them any favours. Sanchez to sparkle

Spurs will be looking to end a dismal run of form that has seen them fail to win in the past six league and cup encounters.
A win for the North London giants against their arch enemies could see them move to within two points of league leaders Manchester City after they drew against Middlesbrough.
