Tottenham fans shocked by Postecoglou decision before job-defining Man United clash

Ange Postecoglou has left supporters stunned before Tottenham take on Man United in the Europa League final.

The two Premier League giants are set to go head-to-head in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May, with both managers under severe pressure due to their performances in domestic competitions.

Spurs are currently sitting 17th in the Premier League table, while their opponents sit one spot above them, with just one game remaining, but Wednesday night is all about the European final.

Ruben Amorim is under pressure from Man United fans despite only joining from Sporting CP in November, and many are expecting Postecoglou to be sacked by Daniel Levy at the end of the season.

Tottenham XI named v Man United

Fans clearly believe that the Spurs manager has taken one more step towards losing his job after the announcement of his starting lineup for the Europa League final in Bilbao.

After fielding a very weak team against Aston Villa last time out, and with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Lucas Bergvall all sidelined, it remained to be seen what the Australian boss’ plan was for the clash.

The defence of Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Destiny Udogie has settled some nerves, with a rather strong midfield trio ahead of them, too.

Pape Sarr, Yves Bissouma, and Rodrigo Bentancur will hope to hold down the middle of the park and allow the attack to do its thing in Spain, but this is where supporters have been left shocked.

Son Heung-min benched for Europa League final

With Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson restored to the starting lineup, everyone expected Son Heung-min to be alongside them in the final third, but he has to settle for a spot on the bench.

This has left fans in shock, given his experience during his time in North London, making over 400 appearances since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Son has been under pressure from Tottenham fans this season, but given the enormous occasion of a European final, fans cannot quite believe Postecoglou’s risky move ahead of kick-off.

One fan suggested that Spurs are “trying so hard to lose”, while another stated that “Ange has made a mistake” as the Lilywhites lineup to face the Red Devils in Bilbao.
