‘Disaster’, ‘Sell’ – Tottenham fans tear £70,000-a-wk player to shreds despite win v Newcastle

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to tear Victor Wanyama to shreds for his performance against Newcastle United on Wednesday night – even though they saw their side win 1-0 and qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs had their top-four status confirmed after earning a hard-fought three points over Rafa Benitez’s side while Chelsea failed to beat Huddersfield in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

It was far from plain sailing for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as Newcastle regularly threatened Hugo Lloris’ goal before Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute.

Tottenham really struggled to get on top of proceedings and many fans believe that was down to Kenya international Wanyama, who had been chosen to play next to Moussa Sissoko in the deeper-lying midfield position until he was hooked in the 88th minute with what looked like a hamstring injury.

Spurs fans were livid with the 26-year-old and took to social media to hammer into him.

One angry supporter claimed that the club should look to “sell” the Kenyan midfielder.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

The Daily Star reports that Wanyama earns £70,000-a-week in his Tottenham deal.

The former Southampton and Celtic midfielder has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this term and scored one goal, which came against Liverpool in February.

In other Tottenham news, Jamie Redknapp has urged Daniel Levy to wrap up a new five-year deal for this fan favourite.
