'Absolutely dreadful', 'Horrific' - Tottenham fans rip into defender's first half v Apoel

By Russell Edge

Tottenham fans took to social media to tear into defender Serge Aurier after his first half performance against Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday.

The full back was named in the starting XI by Mauricio Pochettino despite the Argentinian manager having seen the Ivory Coast international sent off against West Ham on Saturday.

Even with Spurs taking a 1-0 lead into half time, fans were less than impressed with their side’s performance, and targeted much of their displeasure at Aurier on Twitter.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporter’s best tweets:

The 23-year-old almost cost his side a goal after slipping in the middle of the park and making a poor challenge, which led to Apoel breaking into the Tottenham box and unleashing a shot which cannoned off the bar.

He was also unable to demonstrate his ability as consistent attacking outlet, with many of his crosses from the flanks failing to reach a team mate.

Since arriving from Paris Saint Germain over the summer, Aurier has made three appearances, with Tuesday’s outing just his second successive start this season.

However he will be missing for his side’s clash against Huddersfield as he serves his one match suspension for the sending off against West Ham.
