Tottenham fans turn on Guglielmo Vicario after Man City defeat – ‘Pathetic’, ‘Lost us the game’

Tottenham fans were unhappy with the performance of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario during their 1-0 loss to Man City on Friday evening.

Spurs crashed out of the FA Cup after Nathan Ake scored a late winner for City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side managed just one shot against the reigning champions, who will now progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Ake’s late winner was surrounded by controversy after referee Paul Tierney waved away complaints from Vicario that he was fouled by Ruben Dias in the build-up.

Vicario felt he was impeded by the City defender as he went to punch the ball clear, but instead, it dropped to Ake who scored from close range to seal the tie for the visitors.

Vicario has been a standout player for Spurs this season following his £17million summer transfer from Italian side Empoli.

The 27-year-old has kept six clean sheets in 23 appearances across all competitions this season with 32 goals conceded.

The Italian shot-stopper has been a fan favourite since his arrival in North London, but supporters on social media started to turn against him following Friday’s defeat.

Tottenham return to action on Wednesday (31 January) when they host Brentford in the Premier League.
